Atlas Tango Project is an Austin-based group of 5 musicians specializing in the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla and original nuevo tango compositions. The band is composed of founder James Anderson, (violin), Ben Thomas (bandoneon), Tony Rogers (cello), Jonathan Greer, and Phil Spencer (bass).

They were invited by Colorado Ballet to perform ‘The Angel of Buenos Aires’ in collaboration with choreographer Lorita Travaglia. Weaving classical ballet and sultry tango steps, the work, featured stunning movements based on two of Piazzolla’s most loved suites of music – Suite del Angel and Suite del Diablo. ‘Angels and Devils’, an expanded version of the original work, is performed with Travaglia’s Parasol Arts tango group.  A sultry, irresistible Diablo, and a luminous, ethereal Angel are danced by classically trained ballet dancers in a thrilling mashup of tango and ballet, while two tango couples represent the mortals in this story of darkness and light.

We are delighted to perform the passionate Tango di Tango of our colleague, UTD‘s prolific composer, Robert Xavier Rodriguez. It is a smaller work drawn from the orchestral Tango.
