By 1700, Spain was no longer part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the court remained closely involved with Vienna and its music through rich musical exchanges during previous centuries. This first concert of the season features the youthful Mozart Symphony No 29, and Haydn’s famous “Farewell” Symphony No 45 with its richly colored second movement, and final ‘adagio with a message’ where the musicians leave one by one to suggest they long to go home.
Well known counter tenor Nick Garza will sing arias from Spanish Court composer Francisco Courcelle’s opera Achilles in Skyro, given its modern world première by ONS in Dallas 2018. The immensely talented Courcelle followed other Italian composers from Italy to Madrid in the 1730’s where he remained as Chapel Master to his death.
