Overview

The Metropolitan Winds present The Great American Songbook ! under the direction of Greg Hustis. Featured guest artists are Jennifer Magill, vocal soloist and Mikhail Berestnev, piano soloist.

Ms. Magill is a mezzo-soprano with a MM Degree from SMU who is presently working on her Performance Diploma with Virginia DuPuy. She has performed in numerous productions in and around Texas and the Southwest. Of special note Ms. Magill was the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Mercedes in Carmen, and Hansel in_ Hansel and Gretel_. She was cast as Lucy in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and Mrs. Gibbs in the Meadows Opera Theater production of Our Town.

Pianist Mikhail Berestnev received his Performance Diploma from SMU studying with the famed Joaquin Achucarro. Mr. Berestnev has performed internationally and has received accolades in Europe, Russia and the U.S. He has also premiered works for both violin and horn with piano accompaniment. Mr. Berestnev will play Gershwin’s popular Rhapsody in Blue.

We will perform works, with wonderful vocals by Ms. Magill, by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Harold Allen and also tunes as Can’t Take That Away From Me, Someone to Watch Over Me, Embraceable You and Trolley Song. The band alone will add memorable songs by famed Broadway composer/arranger Robert Russell Bennett and others. So just sit back, relax – and enjoy a wonderfully nostalgic Saturday afternoon concert with The Metropolitan Winds!
