Bruce Wood Dance

Hailed as Dallas’ “shining star” by Arts and Culture Texas, Bruce Wood Dance is a nationally acclaimed contemporary dance company that harnesses the power of dance to entertain, enrich, and heal. The company is renowned for its repertoire as “emotionally charged and highly kinetic” (ArtandSeek.org). Artistic director Joy Bollinger carries on the legacy of founder Bruce Wood®️ (1960-2014) and leads an excellent company of twelve dancers. A nationally distinguished Texas artist, Wood founded Bruce Wood Dance in Dallas in 2010 and formerly directed his Fort Worth-based Bruce Wood Dance Company from 1996-2007 to national prominence. Over his 20-year career as a choreographer and artistic director, Wood created more than 80 works recognized for their imagery, musicality, versatility, and emotional impact. Since 2015, BWD has commissioned 20 original works, including internationally acclaimed artists Bryan Arias, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, Garrett Smith, Yin Yue, Omar Román De Jesús, and resident dancemakers Joy Bollinger and Kimi Nikaidoh. Bruce Wood Dance has been recognized as Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2021. “In a year like no other for dance troupes, Bruce Wood Dance turned to film, using the talent of videography team The Digibees to create moving works that awakened us to new feelings… we were riveted,” said D Magazine in 2021.

In the 2021-2022 season, Bruce Wood Dance marks 12 years of artistic excellence and has performed in Tulsa at the Summer Heat International Dance Festival in 2021, 2020 American Dance Platform in New York at The Joyce, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Performance Series, and at other festivals in New York, Ohio, Washington D.C., and across Texas. Bruce Wood Dance has been on the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster since 2018. The company is made possible by support from individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government grants.
