Ballet North Texas presents a powerful original work honoring the life and legacy of Maria Tallchief, America’s first major prima ballerina and a transformative figure in classical ballet.
This 50-minute production traces Tallchief’s journey from her Osage heritage to international stardom, exploring identity, resilience, and artistic brilliance. The performance opens with live Osage dancers and musicians, grounding the work in cultural tradition and honoring the roots that shaped her story.
Through a blend of classical and contemporary movement, the ballet unfolds as a living portrait of a woman who redefined what was possible on the stage. The evening culminates in the iconic Firebird, presented with permission to stage the George Balanchine version—bringing audiences into the role that cemented her place in ballet history.
