Bruce Wood Dance presents

ReNEW

Face masks are required to be worn throughout the show.

Bruce Wood Dance opens its 12th season with ReNEW celebrating the lineage and legacy of Bruce Wood®. The company proudly presents Bruce Wood’s Liturgy, Yin Yue’s begin again and the Dallas premiere of Lar Lubovitch’s Elemental Brubeck. ReNEW is dedicated to the 2019 Bruce Award Honoree, Rosalee Kimple, for her passionate patronage of the company.

ReNEW kicks off with Bruce Wood’s Liturgy, hailed as a “riveting masterpiece” (The Dallas Morning News) and “one of the most significant works of dance created in America” (Fort Worth Star-Telegram). To honor legacy, BWD presents Yin Yue’s innovative and acclaimed begin again which dynamically merges Chinese folk dance, martial arts, and contemporary dance. Arts + Culture Texas selected BWD’s performance of begin again as one of the state’s 2018 Top Ten works. Yin Yue was named Harkness Promise Awardee in 2021. Highlighting Wood’s history and bringing the show to a rousing finale is the Dallas premiere of Elemental Brubeck by the world-renowned choreographer—Lar Lubovitch. Wood was a principal performer with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and his tenure would later have a profound impact on his choreography. The world premiere of Elemental Brubeck took place at the Paris Opera by the San Francisco Ballet in 2003 and in New York by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in 2005. Set to the quintessential jazz melodies of Dave Brubeck, The New York Times said, “ innate good taste and nuanced phrasing inform the spectacular, crystal-clear performance…it looks like pure fun.” Elemental Brubeck highlights social dance styles, such as jitterbug and boogie woogie, blended with classical American jazz dance reminiscent of the 1950s Hollywood musicals. As Mr. Lubovitch says, “Elemental Brubeck makes you want to dance.”

The Lubovitch license is made possible by Rodger Kobes and Michael Keller. Special thanks to Hall Arts Hotel. For more information, contact gayle@brucewooddance.org.
