Celebrating Juneteenth

Overview

Juneteenth offers us a tangible theme for this seasons’ annual June concert. Black composers of early music are rare, France’s Joseph Bologna, Chevalier de St. Georges also known as the ‘Black Mozart’ being the only one celebrated in history. We present more recent African American classical composers in celebration of the Texas roots of Juneteenth with Jessie Montgomery’s “Strum” among others.
