Lyric Stage will close its 2019/2020 season at the Majestic Theatre in June, with the timeless, magical fairy tale Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA. This musical adaptation of the classic story by Rodgers & Hammerstein (The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! South Pacific) was originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella, and was the most widely viewed program in the history of television. Successful made-for-tv recreations in 1965 (starring Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella) and in 1997 (starring R&B/Pop singer Brandy as Cinderella and legendary artist Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother), transported new generations to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.
