Overview

The Avant Chamber Ballet subscription season opens with Morphoses – a triple bill of modern classics.

Opening the program is the world premiere of Katie Cooper’s “Brahms Trio” choreographed to the famous chamber music for violin, horn, and piano. ACB is proud to be collaborating with three world-renowned musicians: Alexander Kerr (Dallas Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster), David Cooper (ACB Music Director and Chicago Symphony Orchestra Principal Horn), and Fei Fei Dong (international piano soloist). The performance will feature new costumes by Ann Boyce inspired by the grandeur and classicism of Brahms score.

Second on the program is Christopher Wheeldon’s “Morphoses”. This is a landmark work for ACB. The company is only the third company to perform the work after New York City Ballet and Washington Ballet. The work explores the boundaries of partnering with two couples exemplifying the intricate and musical pas de deuxs that have made Christopher Wheeldon once of the most important choreographers in the world today.

Closing the show is Katie Cooper’s “Sisterhood” which premiered in May with new music by composer Quinn Mason. The performance is an explosion of youthful joy and struggles inspired by the relationships that keep us grounded and make life worthwhile.
