CHANTICLEER – “An orchestra of voices” named for the “clear-singing” rooster in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales – is a full-time professional vocal ensemble of 12 men. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian to Renaissance polyphony, Romantic art songs, and contemporary music, spirituals, and pop. Since Chanticleer began releasing recordings in 1981, the group has sold well over a million albums and won two GRAMMY® awards. Chanticleer’s recordings are distributed by Chanticleer Records, Naxos, ArkivMusic, Amazon, and iTunes among others, and are available on Chanticleer’s website: www.chanticleer.org.

Included in their program “Washing of the Water” will be 16th-century works by composers such as Thomas Tomkins, Palestrina, and Orlando di Lasso, mixed with more recent settings of the spiritual “Deep River,” the folk song “Shenandoah,” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

CHANTICLEER’s appearance in the lively acoustical environment of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Thursday evening, June 15, at 8:15, is the concluding event of the 2017 Southwest Regional Convention of the American Guild of Organists. The general public is invited to purchase tickets ($40 each, plus service charge) through TicketDFW.com for what will be one of the season’s musical highlights.
